Extra Safety Tips for Your Zipline Adventure

Staying Safe on Your Zipline Adventure

On the Empower Adventure website, you’ll find some guidance about safety when you’re embarking on your zipline adventure. But there are some more general safety tips and ideas that can help you stay safe on any zipline adventure – wherever it is.

Research the Zipline

If you’re thinking about going on a zipline adventure and have picked your location, make sure you research it first. It’s a good idea to find out about the park or facility that’s offering a tree top tour or zipline experience. Sadly, there are many smaller, less trustworthy places that offer ziplining, which has the potential to be extremely dangerous if it’s not done properly.

When you’re doing this initial research, contact the park and ask some questions. Ziplines aren’t currently regulated, so it’s up to the company or owner as to how secure and safe the zipline and any related equipment will be. If you’ve done some research about ziplining itself before deciding to go, ask the staff questions and make sure they know their stuff too. Of course, you could always just come to Empower Adventures!

Keep Your Eyes Peeled

If the research you’ve done has eased your mind enough that you’re confident your zipline adventure is going to be a safe one, there’s another step to take to make sure once you get there. We’re all told not to judge a book by it’s cover, but in some cases, appearances really do matter. When you get to your zipline, take a look at your surroundings.

How much safety equipment is there? A zipline is more than just a rope and a harness – helmets are vital, and they should also be in condition no matter how old or new the park is. It’s not just the equipment and the zipline that will give you an idea of safety too – the trees around you are important, too. What kind of condition are the trees in? Do the branches look damaged, worn or weak? Do the trees look strong enough to maintain a zipline?

You should consider the zipline itself. What kind of condition is it in?

Pay Attention

When you’re getting set up for your zipline adventure, make sure to listen carefully to the instructor and what they tell you. If they’re offering minimal instructions, you might want to reconsider. Your instructor and guide aren’t just there to start you off, they’re there for your safety. They should be giving you the proper instructions and guidelines on how to stay secure.

If they are giving you some in-depth instructions, like the staff at Empower Adventures are trained to do, you need to make sure you listen. Safety is important, and even something minor that you miss could be putting you at risk.

Association for Challenge Course Technology

The Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) is a big name to look out for when you’re booking a zipline tour. Empower Adventure’s zipline parks and tours are all designed around ACCT specifications, so you know that we keep your safety, as well as your enjoyment, is at the top of our priorities list. If you find a zipline facility that makes no mention of the ACCT, it might be time to go back to the drawing board (and visit our website instead).
