The Empower Tower

Snow Tower
So there I was just past halfway of my first 50K ultra marathon (which just happened to be my first marathon, I know not that smart) and down came the rain. My legs were already feeling exhausted from the quick changes in altitude along the lake front trail in Texas. The rain came harder and harder which created ice rink like conditions in the mud. After about 8 or so epic tumbles and spills in the mud the muscles in my legs could no longer handle the unpredictable terrain, and I still had 10 miles to go. Determined to finish what I had started I began the fastest pace I could hiking instead of running through the muddy terrain. It had been over a hour since I had come across anyone else from the race, when all of the sudden I hear someone sprinting up behind me… it was a race employee sent to stay with the last runner on the course, and apparently that was me.
As we started the last 10 miles my legs never stopped moving but it took everything I had to keep going, I even had to crawl up some of the final steep muddy ridges as both the race employee and I worked our way to the end. As we approached the last few miles I continued to question whether I had enough drive to finish the race, I was completely outside my physical and mental comfort zones. My new found friend, sensing my exhaustion and internal struggle to continue, passed on a phrase that someone told him during his first marathon and said, “you can hurt tomorrow.” This was the phrase that caused a rekindling of the fire within me and the drive to continue and ultimately finish the race, dead last. Although I finished in last place, at a remarkably terrible time of 11 hours, it has been an empowering experience for me. Since then the phrase “you can hurt tomorrow” has helped get through many long days, and tough times, I just have say that phrase to myself and I can press forward through any challenge, adversity, or fear.

So what does this have to do with Empower Adventures? Here at Empower Adventures we love helping people expand their comfort zones. At Empower we may not use the phrase “you can hurt tomorrow” but the principle of putting away your fear or emotions and accomplishing the goal in front of you is still very applicable. We provide the Adventure and the tools but it is up to each individual to self coach, or muster up their own courage to overcome any challenge, adversity, or fear that they may experience during the activity. It is this element that separates our company from others, we focus on Empowering our friends who come out to join us for a Tree Top Canopy Tour, rappelling adventure, or even our survival 101 course. My goal is to help bring some of these empowering experiences from our “Empower Tower” to you so that you can see how people can benefit from our adventures just as I was empowered by my experience during my 50K. I can’t wait to see you out here and possibly share your story!
